A CERTAIN SORT OF WALK – Everyday walks around Chipping Norton’ is now available to buy at £55.
A Certain Sort of Walk is an A5 size artist’s book of interesting, envelope construction with 2 x A5 size images, some smaller images and detailed notes on 10 walks I did repeatedly with Griff, the dog we shared with our son’s family. This book is dedicated to Griff.
They’re the sort of walks you do every day in all weathers, as a break from working at home, for recovery from illness or just for contemplation and reflection. They’re between 40 mins and 1 hour 15 mins long but most can be extended or joined with another one. They show a way of looking and observing the detail and the big view.
The images here show how I’m working the book out – I’ve painted and kept a sketchbook while out walking and am now doing drypoint, hybrid and linocut prints from some of these to illustrate the walk notes which come with grid references, simple maps to use alongside Ordnance Survey maps and notes on directions, observations, what to look for, places for refreshments when available, points of interest, public transport links when possible etc. The notes can be taken out of the book and either taken with you or photographed on a phone to use as you walk.
It’s a limited edition of 100 which are now available to buy at a price of £55. They are signed and numbered and put together individually by hand. The walks are all within a 15 min drive from Chipping Norton, some directly accessible from Chipping Norton or from bus routes from Chipping Norton. There are walks near Chadlington, Charlbury, Chastleton, Sarsden, Shipton-under-Wychwood etc.
